April’s class is full so I added a May class

May 18-19  Grand Rapids Mi

Hello Crafty B here!
Let's learn sandcasting at the Crafty B & Stitch World headquarters!! We are located at 1533 100 Street SE. Byron Center MI 49315, this is 15 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids and there are many hotels within five minutes of our shop starting at around 80.00 for basic lodging per night and up to 130.00 for something nicer with a onsite restaurant. If you're flying into Gerald R Ford International Airport, there air many on site
car rentals as it is a short 15-20 minute drive from our shop.

I'm excited to show you how to do sandcasting at your home, shop or garage. I will cover everything you will need to know to cast aluminum and brass without spending a fortune on equipment and you will take a few key pieces home with you as they are included. We will be making a forge to melt aluminum as well as the sand flasks that hold a pattern that you will be designing and building. And you will pour a part from your very own pattern.

We will have a meet and greet Thursday May 17th at 6:00 pm where we will chill out with snacks and bevy's and get to know each other before we dive into the guts of the class Friday morning starting the 18th at 10:00am. This meet and great is totally optional so if you can’t make until Friday morning no problem!

First on the agenda we will build a very efficient melting forge from a discarded propane tank, a couple pieces of tubing, a bag of cement and a bit of welding. This forge can run on charcoal or a propane burner. This burner can be built from simple hardware plumbing fittings as well if you choose to tackle it. I will explain both methods when building the forge for this class.

The biggest part of sandcasting is understanding how the casting patterns work and how to make them properly for a clean imprint in the sand. I have made hundreds of casting patterns over the years and I will share this knowledge with you on how to construct your pattern and get you casting your own parts right away.

I will share my 20 years of Journeyman Tool & Die and 10 years of casting and hot rod building experience and knowledge with you as we will be using various machines in my shop to clean up the rough castings you will be making. I will spend all the time needed with each of you to make sure that you understand all the areas of casting.

Then again Saturday morning at 10:00 am we will continue where you left off Friday night finishing your patterns and casting more parts as time permits. There will never be any pressure to hurry thru this process as I will keep the class open into the evening for those that need extra time.

Optional Sunday build a gas cap
Cost additional 200.00

As most of you know via Instagram I build the world's coolest gas filler caps. I will walk you through the machining process and you will do most of the machining yourself but because of the time it takes to complete a cap, you may have to finish the sanding and polishing at home.

This class is limited to 10 -12 students to allow plenty of one-on-one time with each. The cost of the sandcasting class is 575.00 and the build a cap on Sunday is 200.00 also this is a first come-first serve basis as space is limited. Lunch, snacks and beverages are provided each day. A deposit of 75.00 is due upon signing up for the class to hold your spot. Remainder is due on or before April 20 2018

Deposit of 75.00 payment can be made with PayPal, charge card or check. Balance due on or before May 18th and cash is preferred if possible.
