American Pickers

Hello Gang!

I have had quite a bit of activity on the website since the airing of the the show Monday! By now you see I build gas caps and this is how the friendship between Mike and myself started. My wife and I where on vacation in Mexico a few years ago and I turned off my phone for the duration of the 2 week trip. After getting back into the states of course my phone blew up and one of the messages was Hello this is Mike Wolfe call me, than a few more messages in Hey Crafty b Wolfe here call me. The call was made and we had a great chat, then talked about a few parts for his 32 Ford Roadster he was building. I made a very custom WOLFE SPEED gas cap and a few other parts for the deuce. Next came the build of his original paint 36 Gulf oil Ford delivery truck that was built the old traditional style with a hipo flathead and everything that goes with it. Next came the Nash Healy which you saw on the show and is almost complete, it will be delivered soon to Mike.

Thank you for subscribing!

Crafty B Sandcasting School

Hello Crafty B here!
Let's learn sandcasting here at the Crafty B & Stitch World headquarters!! We are located at 1533 100 Street SE. Byron Center MI 49315, this is 15 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids and there are many budget friendly hotels within five minutes of our shop starting at around $80 per night. If you're flying into Gerald R Ford International Airport, there air many on site
car rentals as it is a short 15-20 minute drive from our shop.

I'm excited to show you how to do sandcasting at your home, shop or garage. I will cover everything you will need to know to cast aluminum and brass without spending a fortune on equipment. We will be making a forge to melt aluminum as well as the sand flasks that hold a pattern that you will be designing and building. And you will pour a part from your very own pattern.

We will have a meet and greet Thursday August 17 at 6:00 pm where we will chill out with snacks and bevy's and get to know each other before we dive into the guts of the class Friday morning starting at 10:00am.

First on the agenda we will build a very efficient melting forge from a discarded propane tank, a couple pieces of tubing, a bag of cement and a bit of welding. This forge can run on charcoal or a propane burner. This burner can be built from simple hardware plumbing fittings as well if you choose to tackle it. I will explain both methods when building the forge for this class. We will actually use this forge to melt aluminum for your pattern.

The biggest part of sandcasting is understanding how the casting patterns work and how to make them properly for a clean imprint in the sand. I have made hundreds of casting patterns over the years and I will share this knowledge with you on how to construct your pattern and get you casting your own parts right away.

I will share my 20 years of Journeyman Tool & Die and 10 years of casting and hot rod building experience and knowledge with you as we will be using various machines in my shop to clean up the rough castings you will be making. I will spend all the time needed with each of you to make sure that you understand all the areas of casting.

Then again Saturday morning at 10:00 am we will continue where you left off Friday night finishing your patterns and casting more parts as time permits. There will never be any pressure to hurry thru this process as I will keep the class open into the evening for those that need extra time.

As most of you know via Instagram I build the world's coolest gas filler caps and if this is something you would like to make, the castings will be available at my shop at no extra cost. I will walk you through the machining process but because of the time it takes to complete a cap, you may have to finish the sanding and polishing at home.

This class is limited to 10 students to allow plenty of one-on-one time with each. The cost of the class is $800.00 and is a first come-first serve basis as space is limited. Lunch, snacks and beverages are provided each day. A deposit of $400.00 is due upon signing up for the class to hold your spot. Remainder is due on or before Aug 17th.

Payments can be made with PayPal, charge card or check. Please call the number below if you have any questions or shoot me an email

Thank you and I'm excited to teach you all about the wonderful world of sandcasting!
